Shortlisted for 2012 Northern Design Awards

We have just been shortlisted for the Best Independent Retailer at the 2012 Northern Design Awards.

The winner will be announced at the Awards on 30th November. We all have our fingers crossed here.

This is our Design Awards Entry:

Julia learned her trade as a hotel housekeeper, quickly realising there was a niche in the market for bespoke soft furnishings in North Wales. Since striking out on her own in 1970, Julia Jones Ltd has grown into a family business specialising in contemporary furniture, home interior furnishings, and a full interior design service – and continues to evolve after a remarkable 42 years in business!

Having studied Spatial design, I joined my mother in 1995, allowing my passion for design to drive the business in new directions. Whether it’s a new wallpaper design, or a modular sofa that plays music from your smartphone, I enjoy the challenge of seeking out the latest products for our North Wales showroom.

We stock an international mix of contemporary suppliers, including Calligaris & Natuzzi Editions from Italy, ArteM of Germany, Sits from Poland, Fama and Mantra lighting from Spain, as well as supporting British manufacturers such as Greenapple, Harlequin, Sanderson and Little Greene. We choose our suppliers carefully – once a design has caught our eye, we consider whether it is practical, comfortable and flexible enough to suit real people’s homes, the kind of homes we live in ourselves. After all, Northern practicality doesn’t need to compromise on style!

We offer a bespoke curtain making and interior design service, with a comprehensive range of fabrics and wallpapers on display in our showroom. The majority of our customers come to us looking for inspiration – whether someone needs a sofa to fit an awkward room, or can’t figure out the best way to dress an arched window. As Mother and Son, we are in a unique position to have a generation of experience, tastes and styles between us, so clients can choose whoever appeals more to their own ideals.

We really believe in providing great customer service – my rule is to try and deal with people the way that I would like to be dealt with myself. That rule runs through everything we do – for example our delivery service includes unwrapping, assembling and positioning the product exactly where the client wants it. We’re not afraid to go the extra mile – last winter I found myself digging my way through a foot and a half of snow to reach a client’s rural home to make sure they had their order on time! It’s all part of the fun of working in North Wales!

Now into our fourth decade of trading, where many might have become stuck in their ways, we have had a complete rebrand to revitalize our image and continued to diversify, adding lighting and paint to our home interiors range. Furthermore, this year we launched ourselves into the world of online retail with our new e-commerce website www.juliajones.co.uk – what better place to buy your new armchair than from your own living room! We can now offer a great choice of convenient online shopping but with a bricks and mortar showroom for those who still want to see the product they are buying, with our fresh, contemporary brand consolidating the two. And there’s nothing like the power of word of mouth from those ‘Liking’, ‘Following’, ‘Sharing’ and ‘Tweeting’ about us!

What makes us unique? We’re a contemporary showroom run by interior designers, a mother and son in business for over forty years – pushing the boundaries to make sure Julia Jones ltd stays fresh, and continues to grow for a few more years yet!
