My business started in a 3 day week, now celebrating 50 years in a pandemic

In Spring 1970 I started working from home, making soft furnishings, loose covers, bedspreads and curtains. Success followed so I engaged 2 part time team members to help with production and therefore expanding into premises.

I was advised to use my name for the company, which proved to be an excellent move and it soon became the name synonymous with high quality and attention to detail, which is of paramount importance when supplying service and goods. This attention to detail and high quality still applies today 50 years later at the centre of our company values.

May 1973 we moved the business from the spare room into commercial premises, 23 Augusta Street, Llandudno taking on a first floor work room together with 2 smaller rooms. Several years later 2 more rooms fell vacant on the same floor so were added to our growing business.

In this same year we set up home consultancy and fitting services and we became agents for leading luxury manufacturers Sanderson, Osborne and Little, Warner and GP and J Baker fabrics.

1974-75 - Julia Jones exhibited at agriculture’s shows to advertise our services.

1983 - Expansion into a high street shop, creating a showroom to display our fabrics and furnishing designs.

1993 - We moved to the present showroom building up to a team of 14 to cope with the increasing demand. Soft furnishings were supplied to customers all over the country as well as locally in North Wales.

1995  - My son, Robert joined the company having studied Spatial Design at Batley College of Art & Design

2000 - The company began to sell Indonisian and classic furniture.

2003 - Seeing a gap in the market we choose to specialise in modern contemporary furniture.

2012 - The lighting department was introduced to complement the growing range of contemporary furniture.

2016 - This was another milestone for the company, due to fashion and trends within the home interiors sector we shifted focus of the company with the closure of the workshop, removal of retailing fabrics, wallpapers and blinds. Making these changes have allowed the company to completely focus on modern contemporary furniture & lighting.

2017 - I retired with my daughter Zeta joining Robert in the business

2018 - Our Coffee shop was opened within the showroom providing artisan coffees, teas and delicious cakes.

2019 - We launched our own collection of mattresses & beds

2020 - Re-development of premises and expansion of our online business is on its way taking Julia Jones into the next 50 years of trading.
