In brief, chart your career journey thus far:

Graduated with a HND in Spatial Design, gained experience working for other companies before joining Julia in the business 25 years ago. 

What does your average day at Julia Jones entail? 

My day starts by accepting in deliveries from our European manufacturing partners. Followed by reviewing daily sales and client schemes. The company has evolved due to us listening to our clients. Everyday I am reviewing our existing product ranges and looking for new ranges to add to our ever growing collection of well designed, quality products.

What is your overall business vision for Julia Jones?

A leading ‘go to’ contemporary furnishing store online & instore. Brand Julia Jones

How are you different from your competitors? 

Our products are always selected to give our clients choice & quality, take one of our arm chairs as an example, its available in 3 x styles of feet and 450 cover options. This allows our client to really tailor the chair to their room

What qualities does a good MD need, in your opinion:

Never stand still, constantly re evaluating every aspect of the business. Don’t be afraid of trying new ways. If they work great, if not then move on and try the next. 

What’s the best business advice you’ve ever been given? 

Trust your gut feeling

Which well known entrepreneur do you admire and why? 

Richard Branson for just doing what he believed in

What makes you happy at work? 

Seeing our clients getting enthusiastic about their homes and enjoying the experience of furnishing them. I always say our clients appreciate their interior spaces. Thats why they shop with us.

And unhappy? 

Not being able to solve a problem

How would colleagues describe you in three words? 

Always has an idea

What do you enjoy doing outside the office? 

The great outdoors which we have on our doorstep and experiences

Finally, what’s your ambition for 2020? 

Julia Jones will be celebrating 50 years in business in 2020. We’ll be starting our redevelopment of our site, exhibiting at Grand Designs Live and launching of our new online store.
